this is gonna be a long post lol

well took the boat out for the day hoping for a slam. went over toward jims first and picked up two flounder and a few dinky reds and specks. i caught some menhaden and mullet and headed to a few spots looking for the specks and reds. got to the first spot through out one of the menhaden not 5 min later a nice 24" speck. so im thinkin i got this slam in the bag. hit the rest of the spots and ended up catchin dinky reds and specks with two of the specks being 20" and 21" :banghead well it was gettin late so i headed to macky cove for a last ditch effort for the red. i was throwin a chart spinnerbait and hooked a nice red got him up to the boat and the hook pulled:banghead. so i anchored up and set rods out with drags loose and all. two at the bow [one with mullet on surface and one on bottem with menhaden] and two at stern. was there about 30 min when one rod off the bow starts screamin. i set the hook and fight whatever it was for about 5 sec and it goes dead. i bring it back in, the 15lb leader was destroyed so i rerig with heavier leader. all of a sudden the rod at the back starts screamin, bows over and goes overboard. i jump in after my rod and right before i hit the water i see the 8 ft bull shark that has my rod no more than 20 yards from me, being followed by 4 more little ones. well rod lost i get my rear end back in the boat as quick as i can. right as i get back in the boat the rod i rerigged bows over. i set the hook and after fightin for a little while i end up with a 2 1/2 ft bull shark.

well after that i called it a day. i lost a slam, a rod, and thats the closest ive ever been and ever want to be to that size shark again. i had heard little sharks were good eatin but when i got home he had turned all bloody red on the bottom and smelled horrible so he became fertilizer. what happened to him???

Launched at Josephine Park at 3:00 AM and went to Ono Island lights--fished until 5:30 without a BITE--nothing. As soon as it got a little light i went to Ono Reef--caught plenty of whites and G.Mullet--almost evert cast. The fish are off the reef on the south west side---plenty of them. Then went to Ross Reef---pretty much the same. Getting Hot--Home--Walk With the Wife--Big Bowl of Special K--Bath--Ice Tea-- Nap Time. BT66

Monster Inshore Snapper

Caught this monster snapper last night fishing for sharks in Pensacola Bay. She tipped the scales at just over 27 lbs!

A friend and I went out Tues and hit the pass about 0630 in his 14 ft. trihull boat. We went to the east and began trolling for spanish using a duster/silver spoon rig on one rod with another rod having a duster/gotcha rig ( both were rigged w/ wire ). We caught 21 Spanish and 1 King. We then came back into the bay and caught a small shark.

Hit my 1st spot in the Sound about 6:15am.... water was like glass so I fished a top dog.....caught 3-4 specs, but had about 25 blow-ups, the water was very active, lots of bait and mullet. Water was clear, saw specs all over the place mostly mid teen size.

At the appropriate time, i headed to my spot west of the pass.......water was glassy again, quiet, no boats...real nice.

Fishing was not brisk by any means, but got 2 reds, one right at 27", 7/bs, the other, a 23" fatty about 4.5lbs. Both caught on what I call deadmans' crab, that's a gulp crab on a Cajun Thunder, hanging dead in the water. It looks like the pinfish draw attention to it.

Nothing on live bait or a varity of lures and jigs????

I'm gulity, I kept the 27" fish, because in a week he would be out of the slot anyway!

Hot day, but nice to catch a stud on the 4th!

Bon Secour River

Took my brother to Mobile Bay for some top water action for specs. We got a late start, arrived at fishing spot around 7:00am. A little to rough for top water, but we tried anyway. Caught 3 spec right away, then gave up and headed up Bon Secour river around 9:30am to try for some mullet. Got a decent mess of mullet and headed home. They Fried up real nice for dinner last night.

I havent been in Hammock in months---its good in the fall/winter so i decided to try the lights. Not many lights but a couple of good ones. All total +/- 10 small Specks--three Reds-one to 21 in. Came back to Wolf Bay and ran my Crab Trap--six nice Crabs. Getting Hot--Home--Walk With the Wife--Big Bowl of Special K--Clean one Redfish--Bath--Ice Tea--Nap Time.

Took the boys to the marina to do some fishing and they picked up a couple of mullet. Being new to the area I decided I would try frying them up so got the oil hot, dipped fillets in egg/milk mixture and then rolled in fish fry mix. They tasted like Mud. Did I do something wrong or do they just taste shitty? Kids had a blast!

Pensacola pass report 07/01

Left out around 0600 to some wonderful weather. We trolled to the west and the east. Seen a sailfish and a couple of turtles. Ended up catching 2 keeper size kings and 2 undersized kings, also caught one spanish. Finished the day off catching a few mullet off pensacola beach. Was a great day to be on the water. Sorry about the size of the pix. That's a 120 qt. cooler those fish are laying across.

I watched the weather all day and it appeared it would go north and west of us. My oldest daughter and son put in at about 6:30 and went just south of the channel. The weather held out just long enough to catch Sundays Dinner. One decent white trout and a 24" redfish. That the first keeper, hopefully many more to follow. The wife perfers the white trout, fine by me they are easier to come by and that leave more redfish for me.

Here are a few pictures from my last three trips. We've caught redfish, kings and snappers. Nothing huge lately but some quality fish. Might have some interesting pictures tomorrow, went to a spot today in 70' of water that had some Jacks eating the snapper we hooked as they were coming up. Damnist thing I've ever seen in shollow water. These fish were eating keeper sized snapper and we never even got one close on 60 lb tackle, must have happened a dozen times But tomorrow I got something for their a$$, out comes the big iron, maybe we'll get one to the top.

Just to let you all know, I caught a 22" red snapper trolling a stretch 25 along side 3 mile, and a 16" grouper near the green buoy in front of the lighthouse near the inlet. let the grouper go but ate the snapper. I caught them last weekend and have pictures but cant figure out yet how to get them out of my phone. Have to keep this short laptop battery is dying. I'll try to post pics later. Good luck..... Ok I posted this in general by mistake but now have the pics. Stupid phone or stupid user, (me), only sent thumbnail size pics, next time i'll take a camera.

Emerald Coast Redfish Club Tournament

7/1/08 Escambia river

Started out in some dense fog around 5:30a.m. Fished just south of Jim's Fish Camp and managed one undersized speck and three little white trout. Had a couple more strikes, but either I wasn't used to the popping cork or they were small ones. After a couple hours we moved upriver past the power poles a way and fished with some plastic worms and hooked two keeper bass and some dinks. Ended the day under beautiful blue skies and flat calm water.

I did have some strikes on topwater, but they were tiny fish. Not a whole lot of action. I guess maybe the tide was wrong? Hopefully next time we'll do a little better.

June 26th Report Seagrove Beach

Went out again. Took four trips out in the kayak and caught four more kings. i got another that was 12#, my brother in law got one about 22#, then my 11 year nethew got one 14# and then i took my brother out and he got one about 12#. that was the best one becuase we flipped over twice and still got the fish. i will post pics later today. 3 of the ones caught were 1st kings for them

Fishing recommendations for Weeks Bay

My family and I are coming down for a short vacation. My in-laws live near Weeks Bay, so I go by the ramp there are the bridge frequently. I am wondering if this is a good location to put in to fish for Specks and Reds. Does anyone have a recommendation on whether I should fish there or what I should fish for in the bay? Any (and all) advice is much appreciated.

Went out w/Dailysaw (Bruce) today. VERY slow! We were in danger of getting skunked (cats don't count!), until he saved the day w/this catch! Caught in about 30' deep water, w/cut bait, on an ultralight spinning rig!!!!!!! Measured at 22+", about 5 3/4lbs on the boga. It was great (as usual) to meet another forum member! Great company, great time on the water, and awesome boat. Best riding 18'er I've ever been on! Thanks Bruce!

Pensacola Inshore Reports

I am afraid to say this for fear of starting a revolution, but over the past few months, I have noticed that our Pensacola Inshore reports have gravitated to the Frt Walton area, the Destin area, the Mobile Area, and now we have the Sea Grove area, which has no inshore fishing that I know of.

Now, the Perdido area certainly has some overlap, no problem....and.....I think what the guys are doing in Kayaks at Seagrove sounds like awesome fun, Kudos to them, honestly that sounds like a blast!!! :bowdown

But if we have a section of the forum for Inshore fishing in Pensacola, then it would seem to me that inshore fishing in the Pensacola area is what we should be concentrating on.

any comments???

June 27th Report Seagrove Beach

Took the yak back out on Friday. We went out 4 times. The first time was my girlfriend and I. we were out for awhile with no bites and decided to head back in. as we were heading back across the bar saw a little king or big spanish heading by 5 seconds later he hit. Ran for a second then nothing. First trip out without catching a fish. Later my dad took me back out we were out for about 15 minutes and bam fish on. Got it back to the beach another 15 to 18#r . Got more video of this one but it's on my sister in laws camera so I will have to wait for her before I can post. Did get some picks I will post later today. My dad and brother in law went back out for a while. No kings but they got a Spanish and chicken dolphin. Both were released. Later that day my dad took the 11-year-old out again. About 30 minutes later we saw them chasing a fish around out there 150 yards off the beach then they came in and we help them get out of the yak. The kid had the biggest one yet on. I have a POS scale and it said 28 but I think this fish was bigger. We got video and pics. I will post later. All in all it was a good trip total tally

Thought I would share this little Video we made of a trip out into the bay Sunday. We were catching nice Reds and Pompano until the weather ran us off. We could not find any live bait and were using Dead shrimp. It didn't seem to matter to the Reds.

Oh well....Tammy ended up with all speck's caught this morning. They were all caught on 1/2oz long shank jigheads w/4" penny gulp. This was going to be a catch and release day but had to keep one, because hook was south of the border.

Charles, Andy, Dad and I went out Saturday morning, drifting in front of P'cola pass with frozen hard tails and sardines. We lost alot of fish, but managed to get 1King, 2 sharks, 1 spanish and a personal best 44 inch red fish. Andy had one red of almost equal size but he was tossing a gotcha w/ 12lb test. Fought em for 15 minutes and got em within 10ft of the boat then he broke.

Headed out of Sherman Cove early this morning to see what we could do around the pass. Loaded up with some finger mullet and headed for the jetties. Anchored up and after about 5 min. I had the first fish on of the day. The fish broke off but sure gave my new Diawa/Allstar light tackle combo a workout! Then my dad hooked up. Boated this nice 30" red.

After a quick re-rig it was my turn, got this 25" slot for dinner (no comment on the facial expression)

My dad missed one more fish, and then the bite stopped.

Destin Surf Fishing

lot of action on the Destin beaches this afternoon and tonight. Ladyfish caught by the "tons" on a chartreuse pomp jigs. anything chartreuse will get you in. also caught some on shrimp. sorry for the crappy report, but the margaritas have taken hold. also, no grass and waves were light to mod. more to follow tomorrow morning

6/22/08 Report

Troy (troygottofish) we gotta start calling him "Troycaughtafish":poke The bait was thick in the pass, we put a few small hardtails in the well and decide to look for a King. Troy was about to take a nappie poo:shedevil when his freelined hardtail starts to take the line from the reel, here is a pic of the result....

Okay, while Troy was re-rigging another hardtail, I was noticing my hardtail (the largest one we had at about 8 inches) was getting ACTIVE! Bam I was looking at the right place at the right time. A King ( i am guessing the tail was about 10-11 inches from top to bottom) slams the crap out of the bait! 2 quick tuggs on the line and it goes dead. I reel in nothing but a frayed 7 strand wire that was connected to the hooks that had the hardtail on. We were in shock that it was over that fast. After comparing Troy's King to the one I just saw inhale the other bait, I am guessing it may have gone in the 35-40 LB range.

We are out of bait by this time, we decide to go and get a few more from the pass. We have been watching the thunderstorm brewing, we are headed towards the pass and the heavy rain starts. Long story short, we hide out behind sand island until it moves out. We get a few more hardtails and threadfins and try around the bouys with no more luck what so ever.

If there is a forum menber on there that knows this boat (slip 296) i think, your drain plug is sitting beside your aft port cleate. It was full of water and lifted the trailer off the ground. I did you a favor, your welcome.

Glad your motor was up...

Went to Graham Creek late this afternoon--fished for Reds until it got dark and then fished three lights. Ran my crab trap and got three nice crabs. All total i caught three Small Reds--one Drum--and plenty of small Specks. Every light had fish popping the water--but no size to them. Water stopped moving--boat on trailer--Home.

we started out fishing tight to the shore following the mullet. Rick sees some disturbance and starts to work his bug when BAM!

Rick is rewarded with this nice 6lb speck! Fish released to fight another day.

George and his sons with a few specks caught on chug bugs...they sure tasted good!

Mark and son for an afternoon fishing trip...Capt Wes casted and the little guy retrieved the lure back until he jacked up this nice poor man tarpon.

Reel Screaming - Rod Bending action!

The past few days the fishing for Jacks and Kings has been off the charts.
I can’t give up all my secrets, (wink) but I can tell you that the lure that’s been producing some quality fish is a steel head Purple /Black / Silver combo and the Blue & Silver combo rigged with a live cigar minnow. Charters had a great time hooking kings all day Family outings are always fun

Today was a great day as we boated a monster king that went 50”. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a weight, but I’m guessing that it was about 40 lbs or maybe a little bigger. According to the fish calculator it would have been 46.72 lbs but I think that, might be just a little heavy. who knows it might have been, I know when Allen gets back up north it will be well over 60lbs. :)

This picture makes it look a little smaller, but the next picture shows the true monster that it was.

This fish was a stud, and would have done well in the Budlight Tournament this past weekend. My client Allen was one happy angler. This was the biggest fish of his life, so far. Enjoy the pics.
